The Modern Mountain "Rise Up" Baking Scholarship is for students looking to pursue a professional career in Baking and Pastry Arts. It was created to support and connect with upcoming bakers, making the pursuit of your professional baking aspirations just a bit easier through financial assistance and one simple-as-can-be application. We'd love to give you a bit of dough to help you start off your first year right!
Eligibility for the Modern Mountain "Rise Up" Baking Scholarship is as follows:
You have demonstrated academic excellence through a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
You have been accepted or are enrolled to a Baking & Pastry Arts program at a US-accredited post-secondary institution, college, or university as a part-time or full-time first-year undergraduate student. (Scholarship applications can be submitted while in the process of applying to Baking & Pastry Arts programs, but applicants will need to provide proof of acceptance into a program by the application deadline of May 31, 2024 in order to be considered as a scholarship recipient.)
You are a legal citizen of the US.

Application Process
Our application includes the following components:
Short essay responses to each of the following essay questions: What does baking mean to you? (300-500 words recommended) Tell us about your long-term goals or aspirations that have led you to pursue a career in baking and pastry arts. What is your best baking tip or trick?
A current and complete transcript showing a GPA of 3.0 or higher
Proof of enrollment in a Baking & Pastry Arts Program at an accredited post-secondary institution, college, or university for the 2024/2025 school year.
Selection Criteria
The scholarship recipient will be chosen based on the following criteria:
An evaluation of open-ended responses using the following criteria: Creativity and originality Demonstrated leadership potential Illustrated curiosity for the craft of baking
Demonstrated academic excellence
Scholarship Award
One recipient will receive a one-time award of $1,000 to be used towards tuition for the 2024/2025 school year. Payment will be administered directly to the recipient via mailed check no later than August 15, 2024. Prior to receipt of the award, the recipient will need to provide a headshot of 400px or greater (a well-lit selfie works just fine, don’t worry!).

Application Window Opens
The application window is opened and Modern Mountain begins to accept applications until the application deadline. Please note that your application date is not important as long as it occurs within this window, as applications are not reviewed until all applications are received.
May 31, 2024
Application Window Closes
This is the last date to submit your application for our 2024 scholarship. All applications must be received by 11:59pm MST May 31, 2024. We cannot consider applications that are received after this date and time. We will begin evaluating scholarship applications on June 1, 2024.
August 1, 2024
Scholarship Recipient Announced
Our 2024 scholarship recipient will be announced on August 1, 2024. The recipient will be notified via email no later than 9pm MST. The recipient has until August 15, 2024 to claim the scholarship prize.

Yes! Scholarship applications can be submitted while in the process of applying to Baking & Pastry Arts programs, but applicants will need to provide proof of acceptance into a program by the application deadline of May 31, 2023 in order to be considered as a scholarship recipient. If you don't have proof of acceptance/enrollment by the time you send your submission, please be sure to send it to riseup@modernmountainbaking.com before the application deadline. If we don't receive it by then, unfortunately we cannot consider you for the award.
We ask scholarship recipients to provide a headshot so we can feature you on our site or social media and give you props for receiving this award and beginning your baking adventure with a bang. If you're worried about not having a headshot, don't get caught up; any selfie with your cellphone will work just fine for our needs.
